About NAIDOC week
In 1957 the National Aboriginal Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) was formed with the support of many significant Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
The celebrations currently associated with NAIDOC Week were established in that year. They are an important annual community and cultural event.
2024 NAIDOC Awards
The NAIDOC Awards are annual Australian honours bestowed upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals during NAIDOC Week. These awards recognise outstanding contributions made by First Peoples to improve the lives of their communities or promote Indigenous issues more broadly.
This year's NAIDOC National Person of the Year award went to Victoria’s own Aunty Muriel Bamblett.
Victorian NAIDOC Awardees
The Victorian NAIDOC Awards celebrate the hard work and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to the Victorian community. These awards are presented annually during NAIDOC Week and cover various categories such as art, culture, education, sport, environment and leadership.
